Solving refrigeration system problems using CoolPack
Introduction CoolPack simulation software can be used to solve simple to complex refrigeration cycles for academic, research, and technical purposes. Due to its minimal hardware requirement, CoolPack is able to provide results for the problems within a fraction of a second. Important ! High school students and undergraduates are highly advised to carry out manual calculations to solve the problems. Most of the simulation programs found on the internet are somewhat erroneous, and someone with less experience is very unlikely to determine such flaws. Example 01 - Single stage flooded system A 75 kW flooded chiller using R134a refrigerant operates between saturation temperatures of -15 °C in the evaporator and 35 °C in the condenser, with 2 °C subcooling. Assuming negligible piping losses and 80% compressor efficiency, estimate compressor input power at full load for single stage system. 1.
