CoolPack for Refrigeration System Simulations
1 Introduction to CoolPack
Coolpack
is a piece of software developed as a result of a research project, and is used
by refrigeration engineers, technicians, students, etc. for energy optimization
of refrigeration systems and to determine and compare the characteristics of
different refrigerants available on the market.
Unlike
most of the other complex software with advanced graphical interfaces, CoolPack
has a very simple, but much faster interface, which helps the users to carry
out simple refrigeration system calculations with a minimum hardware requirement.
The basic functionality of Coolpack can be described as follows.
- Calculation and comparison of the characteristics of different refrigerants.
- Property plots
- Thermodynamic and thermo-physical data
- Refrigerant properties
- Cycle analysis of single and multi-stage refrigeration cycles.
- Calculation and estimation of component sizes and power requirements for proposed refrigeration systems.
- Simulations to determine the properties at different states.
- Evaluation of system energy requirements and finding suggestions for optimum system parameters.
- Determine the efficiency of cycle components such as the compressor, condenser, etc.
2 Overview of the Program
In
order to simplify the application, and to make it easier for the users. The
developers have divided the interface into three main sections and a few other
minor sections, as shown in the below figure.
